VBM (Vibiemme) Domobar Picallo

The Vibiemme Domobar leads the way in espresso machines for home users. Vibiemme launched the Domobar in 1983 as the first home espresso machine with commercial performance. The Domobar features the patented, original E61 group head, which is user friendly and has excellent heat characteristics resulting in superb quality espresso based coffees. Setting the Domobar apart from many other home espresso makers is the patented Vibiemme commercial size E61 group head that allows this unit to produce exceptional espresso extractions. For a good looking, well designed, and fully functional home espresso maker the Domobar is the perfect choice!

La Vibiemme is based in Milan, and have an extensive history and credibility in the international market of manufacturing traditional espresso machines spanning over the past 40 years. The founder of Vibiemme was Mr Carlo Valente, also the founder of renowned Faema. The Faema espresso coffee machine's heritage began in 1945 by Mr. Valente. By 1961 he had introduced the E61 model. The design and patent of the E61 group head was overseen by Mr Valente and is still the most commonly used system even after 40 years producing superior espresso coffee results. With the wonderful espresso machine history behind Vibiemme, it is no wonder that Vibiemme machines are not only beautifully designed but also mechanically and technically refined to deliver superior cup results. Vibiemme still holds the design patent for the E61 group head which is used in conjunction with the E64 group head on their models.

Features

  • True Faema E61 grouphead In the early 1970's Vibiemme became the offspring of Faema and they co-owned the patent to the Faema E61 grouphead.

  • 0.75 Litre Boiler Good sized boiler to help maintain temperature stability of the grouphead. Composed of copper & brass.

  • Water/Steam double tap This allows the barista to use the steam arm to either draw steam for milk frothing, or water for long blacks or pre-heating porcelin cups.

  • Electronic water level control Low water level in the reservoir is indicated and of course the pump is still disabled should the water level become critical.

  • Volumetric adjustable built in pump with by-pass valve and system pressure gauge This allows the pump pressure to be altered if required.

  • Large tray The VBM Domobar, although small in footprint offers a large drip tray, which makes for practical user operation, esprecially when purging the group head before and after each shot.

Coffee Parts Thoughts

The VBM Domobar Piccolo offers exceptional perfomace from and e61 group head in a small and compact footprint. Althought heat exchange machines such as it's bigger brothers (the Junior and Super) perform better in terms of steaming and temperture stability, this small unit provdies a great espresso shot and for low volume milk drinkers, is an attractive proposition. We would recommend the VBM Domobar to any short black or picallo drinker, as it is an excelent package in the single boiler machine category.
